Shower Remodeling in Arlington, VA

The shower is where our bathroom remodeling work in Arlington is won or lost. It is the most technically demanding assembly in the house: a daily flood zone built from a dozen layers that all have to be right, hidden behind tile that only reveals mistakes years later. A great shower is equal parts engineering and design — and both halves deserve the same rigor.

The Problem

Most shower failures are invisible on day one

Arlington’s housing stock is full of showers built decades ago on mortar beds and drywall, and full of newer showers built quickly over the wrong substrate. Both fail the same way: slowly. Grout is not waterproof; when the membrane behind it is missing, pinholed, or improperly lapped, moisture migrates into framing and subfloors for years before the first stain shows on a ceiling below.

The visible problems are easier to name — a cramped 32-inch enclosure, a curb you will not want to step over at seventy, a single showerhead on a cold exterior wall, framed glass that corrodes at the hinges. But it is the invisible layer that determines whether a beautiful shower is still a sound one in fifteen years.

The Solution

Modern waterproofing, then the beautiful part

We build showers from the studs out with modern bonded-membrane systems — sloped, sealed, and flood-tested before a single tile goes up. Niches, benches, and curbs are formed and waterproofed as part of the system rather than carved in afterward. Valves are pressure-balanced or thermostatic, sized for the heads they feed, and we favor fixtures aligned with EPA WaterSense standards so performance does not come at the water bill’s expense.

Then the design work shows: large-format tile with tight, planned grout lines; a niche aligned to the tile grid rather than floating mid-wall; frameless glass measured after tile so it meets the stone cleanly; lighting that makes the enclosure feel like part of the room instead of a dim box. Where the plan calls for it, we build curbless — the floor plane flows straight in, which reads as luxury today and functions as accessibility later.

Design Options

Ways to build a better shower

Walk-In & Curbless

Open, barrier-free entries with linear drains — the cleanest look in modern bath design and the most future-proof.

Frameless Glass

Heavy glass panels and doors measured post-tile for clean reveals, with hardware finishes matched to the fixtures.

Tile & Stone

Large-format porcelain, zellige, mosaic accents, or natural stone — selected for slip rating and maintenance, not just looks.

Spa Fixtures

Rain heads, handhelds, and body sprays on thermostatic valves — planned against your home's actual water pressure and heater capacity.

Niches & Benches

Storage and seating built into the waterproofing system, aligned to the tile layout from the first drawing.

Steam-Ready Builds

Fully enclosed, vapor-sealed enclosures engineered for steam units where the footprint and ventilation allow.
